Walkin' in the park ...
Any new place to walk is interesting. This was a new place with plenty of interesting dog smells, but Emma and I did not meet any dogs there.
I thought I would take the puppers walking in Freedom Park in Beaufort. Several years ago, a dog play group used to meet here every Saturday morning, but no more. We went there hoping to find that the play group had revived, but all we found was the Brazilians playing soccer (how many in a brazillion?) The plywood plant in Beaufort imports lots of logs and workers from Brazil. They are very good soccer players (the workers, not the logs).
We will just have to look forward to summer, and hope that the dog play group at Radio Island Beach comes back to life.

Frankly, I'd rather swim in the ocean ...
and I was just starting to build up a really great fishy smell.
In late December I finally figured out how to get warm water outside. I found a fitting that will connect to any kitchen faucet, whether male or female threads. Since then, it's been a bath every couple of weeks for Bubba.
When we had our first Newf, Attila, I had a wonderful little room in the basement of our house in south Minneapolis. It was about 4 feet by 6 feet, pine paneled, with a floor drain. A hose, which could be connected to the laundry tub, came through the wall. I would don my foul weather bibs, get the water temp just right, and in that little room Attila could shake of suds to his heart's content.
Here in Beaufort, summer bathing is no problem. I put on shorts, and we hose down in the yard. But winter is another matter. Mind you, it's not Minnesota or Wisconsin, but I still find weather in the 50s a little cold for hose bathing out of doors. It makes all the difference to have slightly warm water coming out of that hose.
It's nice to be able to keep the dead hair in Bubba's coat to a minimum. With enough regular and thorough blowing, I find very little brushing is required. He likes to play with the blower when I first start it up, trying to chomp on the air blast.
When I bathed Bub at Becky's before driving him to North Carolina, he was VERY difficult, running away from the blower. His uncle Uno LOVED his blower, so I was surprised that I had to chase Bubba around, stand on the leash, and so on. I actually began to wonder if it was really hurting him in some way, so I was hesitating to get way into his coat with the concentrator, and then Becky was really put out with me for not getting right into the coat.
When I was able to start bathing him regularly here, I began using the SATS intermediate bridge to get him to settle down for blowing out, and targeting him to a piece of plywood so that I don't have to string him up or chase him around. He stands quite patiently now, and is actually learning to like the blower; maybe someday he will love the blower as much as Uno did.

The big thing with wheels ...
This thing has been sitting in the house for weeks now. I have no idea what it is, but it takes up some space, and the 2lggds keep moving it around to get it out of the way of this and that. A couple of weeks ago it got the long poles added to it. Mom sits down on it sometimes, and when she does the poles lift up into the air. When she sits on it, I go to get petted because she's down at my eye level, which I like. Here I am napping between the long poles. Just seemed like the thing to do at the time.
I hadn't intended to unveil this thing until it was finished, but when I found Bubba lying down for a nap between the shafts, I couldn't resist snapping a photo and sharing it. This is a sulky which I am building from parts of two old BMX bicycles, and a swivel chair from the Salvation Army. Bubba doesn't know what it's for because I don't have a harness yet. Once we have his harness, I will finalize the shaft length and bends, and my metals guy will copy them and provide them with foot pegs. We also have to figure out a way to mount the brake levers. The ideal would be to have them foot operated. Once the shafts are done, I will sandblast the frame and paint it. At that point I will post more about the design, and Bubba's draft training.

That's my stinker lil' brudder Fitch on the left (not my real brother, but my pack brother). Guess he's not so little anymore, haha! And Aunt Kathleen in the middle (she's the one with no black fur). Big wet slurpy kisses to you, Aunt Kathleen! (Hey Fitch, jump up on her and give her a hug for me!)
