Today we went to someone else's house for the afternoon. I am disappointed that Emma did not come along, and I was the only dog there. But I'm not sure that I'm ready to stay home alone, so I am thankful that I got to go with my 2lggds, and keep an eye on them through the door.
I am disappointed that I was not allowed to come inside. There was an enormous gray cat named Atticus in the house (also know as Fatticus). He was giving me that look that said "make my day. I'll scratch your eyes out!" But I am thankful that all the nice people came out to pet me.
I am disappointed that I didn't get a plate with turkey, stuffing, brussel sprouts, succotash, wild rice, squash, pumpkin pie, pecan pie, and apple custard tart. But I am thankful that I got to eat some really yummy turkey skin, and whole giant grilled shrimp.
I'm disappointed that I'm far away from my last 2lggd mom and my Newfie pack. But I'm thankful for my new 2lggd dad and mom, who is with me almost every minute of the day, and my new packmate, Emma, who has welcomed me into her home.
I will leave Bubba alone in the house for a couple of minutes, to run out to the car, for instance. But I will not really leave him until I have a crate for him, and we must work up to even that. He has separation and abandonment issues, and there's no point in pushing this too fast. Emma, of course, has no problem staying home alone, so I left her there to keep things simple.
We went to dinner at the home of a friend. She and two of her guests are chefs, so the food was fantastic. I brought natural lake and river grown Minnesota wild rice, cooked in chicken broth and white wine, and sauteed in beure noisette with toasted almonds (our standard potluck contribution).
After a short period of trying to enter the house, Bubba settled down and kept an ear cocked to the goings on inside. After dinner, we retired to the back deck, and I brought Bubba around to join us. I was quite proud of his mostly good manners at a home that does not generally welcome dog visitors.
Kathy, Bubba's 2lggd mom
