The Christmas Parade ...

Today our 2lggd mom took me and Emma into downtown Beaufort in the late afternoon. It was busier than usual, and Mom said that was 'cause there were lots of people there to watch the Christmas Parade. I got petted by lots of kids and that was cool. There were people throwing stuff from passing cars, and I wanted to see what it was, but Mom wouldn't let me get to the stuff on the ground. Then this pounding noise was coming up the street from far away. It got closer, and louder, and closer, and louder. And I started to freak! Mom took us away from the street and the crowd. She sat down on a bench and held me close to her, and explained that the loud noise was a marching band. As soon as it passed, Mom decided that we had all seen enough, and she took us back to the car.

Bubba has little experience of the world. He is a very good natured boy, but he becomes anxious when he encounters things that are strange to him. Especially continuous loud noise, and commotion. I was very happy to see how good he was with the children. He didn't actually engage with them, because he was already very slightly anxious due to the crowd. But even in a slightly anxious state, he allowed them to pet him with no reluctance at all. The dignitaries in the cars were tossing candy to the kids, and I think Bubba wanted to see what the stuff was that was sailing through the air and landing on the street. The marching band completely did him in though. The drum section could be heard over a block away.
